Fab Five {10/26}

Here are 5 things this past week that made me happy.

1. A day without stomach pain - been having these more frequently now. Sometimes I can't sleep because of it. So any day without stomach pain is a great day for me!

2. Found a substitute for In-'n-Out: Big Daddy's Fire Grill (Actually had this a couple weeks ago when I wasn't having those stomach pains as frequently - but looking at the picture made me happy... and hungry...)

3. Tried this NatureBox snack box trial and H loves it. We're considering subscribing.

4. Had to go feed H's brother's dogs the past weekend when they were out of town. So cute!

5. A lunch date with some friends in Little Tokyo - bliss.

Other things worth mentioning are that I went running twice this week, one of which was a 10-minute mile which is a big deal to me. Personal record I'd even say.

Fab Five Friday {10/19}

It's been a while since I last did anything significant with this blog... Somewhat losing my steam and motivation and also because I have been busy doing other things. In the last 2 weeks, I guess the most significant thing was that I was offered a 2nd job, at a very coveted place... But I turned it down because I wanted a life. The 2nd job would have required me to work 6 days a week, every week, and I "been there done that."

Here's my top 5 for the last two weeks:

1. 1 year anniversary!! We celebrated at Santa Monica beach.

And happened to see Nick Cannon hosting some fundraising event.

H wanted to see Mariah but nope.

We also rented tandem bikes (first time) where H did most (okay, all) of the pedaling.

2. New season of Walking Dead!

3. These shortbread cookies my coworker brought back from her Hawaii vacation.

4. LA had a day of rain and "winter" (before the temp surged back to the 90's...)

5. I can't and don't eat much sweets but when I do, it's gotta be good. These were taken on two separate occasions. One of which was after 10pm. Teehee.

No Friday Feature

It is now Friday morning, 4:50 am. I am awake because I barely slept, been tossing and turning because my whole body was in pain particularly my stomach. It still hurts. But I realize I haven't done my blogging... Usually it is something I work on throughout the week, but for some reason, in the past 2 weeks, I have been losing my motivation. My mind has been elsewhere. Many places elsewhere.

In other news, this weekend is our first wedding anniversary! Time sure flies. We didn't plan anything too special or out of the ordinary because we will be taking another trip later this year, but I'm still looking forward to it. Have to get through what is looking to be a very long Friday first though...

A new book Instant, The Story of Polaroid is coming out this month. It documents the story of Polaroid's founder, Edwin Land, and here is a video introducing him. I did not know that Steve Jobs modeled Apple after Polaroid. Check out the video!

[Recipe] Overnight Oats

I'm not one for following recipes - they all tend to end in diaster. (Which may explain why I failed in all the Chemistry lab classes in college.) So these are more like "cooking guides" where everything here is "approximate" and you can tweak it to your liking.

A few weeks ago, my friend Angela started a sensation within our friends circle by emailing us about overnight oats. It's a super easy breakfast idea for summer - you prep it the night before, and it's ready the next morning by the time you head out the door.

After I looked over several blogs showcasing overnight oats (I like this one too), I realized that it doesn't really require a "recipe" persay - perfect for a lazy person like me. You just need the following:

- oatmeal (could be steel, quick, or rolled although I read somewhere that the steel oats don't soften as much and can be chewier than liked and that the rolled is more appropriate)
- milk (or soymilk, almond milk, etc)
- sweetener or flavored yogurt (I opted for the latter)
- fruits of your choice
- any container that has a closed top (many blogs use mason jar, but I use a screw top glass jar that looks more like a candy jar. I have yet to use a Tupperware but I'm sure it would work just as fine)

Optional: other nutritious goodies like nuts, granolas, chia seeds, flax seeds, etc

1. Add oats, milk, and sweetener/yogurt to container. Don't fill the milk to the brim if you are adding chia seeds (they need room to expand) or if you are transporting this to the office.

2. If you are adding chia/flax seeds, add them now. If you are adding nuts and granolas, you can add them right before you eat so they don't get too soggy.

3. Cover lid and refrigerate. Shaking optional. Enjoy next morning! Easy!

Wait? What happened to the fruits? You can add them in any time. I opted to add them into the jar along with the oats and milk in the beginning to let the flavors swirl all together, but you can also add them right before eating. Adding the yogurt probably doesn't make it as sweet as adding sweeteners, but I like it better not as sweet and I also get the added benefit of yogurt. The cool thing about this is that you can choose to follow the recipes you find online to try the difference combinations of flavors, or you can make up your own!

Now...if only I can get H to eat this, then I wouldn't have to make a separate breakfast for him during the summer months...
